Union University seeks a qualified individual for a full-time, tenure-track faculty within the Department of Music for Music Education Choral beginning Fall 2021. Rank assignment commensurate with education and experience.

(80 miles northeast of Memphis) with additional campuses in Germantown, Hendersonville, and Memphis, Tenn. Primary duties include teaching music education courses such as Elementary Music Methods and Materials, Leading in the Learning Environment, and Technology for Music Education, oversight of the choral Music Education program, and working in collaboration with the School of Education to supervise Music Education Majors in student teaching and field experience placements. Applied vocal studio instruction will be based on expertise. Other duties may include directing a choral ensemble, small vocal ensemble, or worship ensemble. Other expectations include maintaining positive relationships with area school music educators, actively recruiting students for the Music Education program, service on Departmental and University committees and service to professional organizations within the field. Professional engagement, including publications and presentations at state, regional, national, and international professional conferences is expected.
The ideal candidate will provide evidence of administrative experience and knowledge of assessment and accreditation in addition to excellence in teaching and choral conducting; experience in elementary music is a plus.
The candidate should demonstrate conversance in a variety of music styles including classical, commercial, black gospel, jazz, and worship music.
Additional responsibilities encompass service to the department, university, and community along with appropriate scholarly activities
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctorate degree in Music Education with a focus in Choral music, three years of teaching experience in the schools (K-12), and choral conducting experience is required. Also required is evidence of leadership potential (e.g. positions held, experience with coordinating programs, directing student projects, and/or grant development). ABD candidates will be considered.
Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of college teaching experience (graduate teaching assistantships with substantial teaching responsibility will be considered.)
