Job Summary: Union University seeks qualified individuals for a tenure-track faculty position in Education for the 2023-24 academic year. Rank assignment commensurate with education/experience.

This position is responsible for teaching a variety of graduate and undergraduate special education courses, fulfilling departmental and university-wide faculty responsibilities, and maintaining an appropriate level of scholarship within the College.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Teach a full-time load of various special education courses (24 load hours per year composed of 3 credit undergraduate, 4 credit graduate, and dissertation hours) based upon school needs. Design and deliver class instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course competencies, the development of activities that support lesson objectives, and the development of critical thinking skills. Online teaching may be required.
  • Chair doctoral dissertations.
  • Engage the discipline through scholarship, research, and presentations.
  • Actively support departmental recruitment activities for new students.
  • Facilitate/guide the progress of students toward the achievement of course and program outcomes.
  • Plan clear course outcomes. Assess records related to the evaluation of student outcomes and course grades.
  • Demonstrate interest in personal and professional growth of students. Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students. Demonstrate concern for student progress.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student accessibility.
  • Faithfully participate in Greater Faculty Meetings and College of Education faculty meetings.
  • Make relevant and realistic course assignments.
  • Serve on university committees as assigned. Participate in program planning and College-standing and ad hoc committees as designated by the Dean.
  • Apply Christian standards and attitudes in relationships among faculty, staff, and students.
  • Contribute to a positive work climate and the team effort with the College.
  • Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with full and part-time faculty, staff, and all other persons having a direct impact on the program.
  • Participate in professional organizations and scholarly activities. Attend professional meetings, workshops, and/or conventions.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Submit budget and textbook requests for assigned courses by posted deadlines.
  • Collaborate with others in student or school-related activities.
  • Sponsor student organizations as assigned.
  • Take part in campus and community activities related to the discipline of Education.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in Special Education is required. Must also have demonstrated teaching excellence and an ability to supervise dissertations.
