POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Executive and Instructor)

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Reference and Distance Services Librarian, Reference and Collection Development Librarian, Digital Scholarship Librarian/Archivist, Access Services/Periodicals Assistant, Technical Processing Assistant.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Library Services provides leadership and direction to all personnel and services within the LRC to ensure the library fulfills its mission and the purposes of the University. Position also serves as chair of the Learning Resources Committee, serves on other university committees as assigned, and shares weekend/evening hours with other library staff.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

1. Plan, organize, and direct the operations of the library.

2. Articulate a vision to expand services to students and faculty through technology.

3. Train and supervise the work of library and supporting staff.

4. Prepare budget and monitor expenditures.

5. Represent the library before the university and external entities.

6. Evaluate the performance of library staff.

7. Recommend employment and retention terms for library staff.

8. Schedule hours of library operations and staff.

9. Work with the Digital Scholarship Librarian/Archivist to manage the archive records.

10. Provide reference eservices to students, faculty, and other patrons.

11. Prepare reports including but not limited to: annual PBERs, IPEDS, End-of-year, and SACSCOC.

12. Serve as needed in support of university grant applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A commitment to and an agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas/Texas Baptists in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.

Education:

1. Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from ALA accredited school.

2. Doctorate would be a bonus.

Experience and Knowledge:

1. Three (3) years administrative experience in an academic library.

2. Thorough knowledge of emerging trends and technological application in academic libraries.

Skills and Abilities:

1. Experience delivering library services via a variety of instructional modalities.

2. Good oral and written communication skills.

3. Ability to exhibit skillful, pleasant and tactful manner in meeting students, staff, faculty and other visitors to the library

4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

5. Computer proficiency with programs such as library automation, e.g. Sirsi, Zoom, Blackboard, SpringShare applications (LibGuides, LibApps), Microsoft applications including Teams and SharePoint, or a willingness and ability to learn quickly.

6. Work independently, receiving minimum of supervision and guidance on established procedures.

7. Able to acquire a thorough working knowledge of policies and procedures.

8. Ability to use administrative reporting channels appropriately.

9. Anticipate problems and use sound judgment and tact in handling confidential matters.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

1. Sit at computer desk for extended periods of time.

2. Some lifting of books and pushing of book carts.

3. Work in a well-lighted, ventilated and air-conditioned office.

Additional Requirements:

1. Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

2. Must pass background check.

Conditions of Employment:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel and provide recruitment assistance to external campuses. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motorized vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.
