Founded in 1873 as a Christian liberal arts University and affiliated since 1920 with the Mississippi Baptist Convention, Blue Mountain Christian University seeks applications and nominations for a Director of Bands Fall, 2023.

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT:  Full-Time Position, Nine-Month Appointment; Assignment to academic rank will be commensurate with experience and education.

SALARY:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience

DATE OF APPOINTMENT:  Immediately upon hire

REQUIREMENTS:  The ability to articulate and support the Christian mission of the institution; Master’s Degree in the discipline; preferred professional experience appropriate to the discipline; excellent computer and educational technology skills; proven administrative skills; ability to work relationally and collaboratively with internal and external constituents.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Bands demonstrates expertise in knowledge and teaching of instrumental music and provides leadership of the marching band, concert band, and pep band including band arranging, field show design, program development, and a scholarship program. The successful candidate should be able to plan, rehearse, and direct musical experiences for the University and the community; recruit the number of band members as outlined in the GROW Program on an annual basis; cooperate with the University’s administration in providing music programs for University productions, graduation ceremonies, and as appropriate, civic functions that enhance the students’ performing experience; oversee scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsals and concerts in cooperation with the Chair of the Department of Fine Arts and Provost; coordinate band activities with the Intercollegiate Athletics; ability to collaborate with others in the ongoing development of the music curriculum; actively participate in the promotion, recruitment, and retention of talented students for the music program, particularly those in instrumental music; teach courses in conducting, literature, applied music, and additional courses as needed by the Department; participate in University and community endeavors; and engage in accomplishing the goals for the department in keeping with the mission and strategic directions of the University.
