Reports to: Theatre and Musical Theatre Department Chair and Dean of School of Fine and

Performing Arts

Required Qualifications: A college degree, preferably in theatre. Two years’ experience in costuming and/or theatre production. Basic technology proficiency, including Microsoft Office. Financial management skills, especially ability to operate within a budget. Must be well organized and an effective communicator.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with theatrical hair and make-up.

Job Summary:  

Responsible for supervision, management, and administration of Shorter’s Costume Shop. This includes outfitting each of the productions from the School of Fine and Performing Arts, including theatre, musical theatre, opera, dance, and other productions as necessary. Design hair and make-up, according to the applicant’s strengths. Maintain a well-organized shop. Coordinate with the Technical Director to set workable timelines and budgets for each production and deliver on these goals.

Weekly Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate with Technical Director on upcoming productions.
  2. Design, order, and/or tailor costumes as needed.
  3. Maintain consistent shop hours, including at least twenty-five hours a week scheduled during standard work hours. These must be posted on the shop door and shared on your Outlook calendar for the department faculty/staff.
  4. Respond to email correspondence in a timely manner.
  5. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Semesterly Responsibilities:

  1. Costume each SoFPA production.
  2. Operate within budget on each production.
  3. Ensure that all materials used for productions are returned to the shop and stored appropriately.
  4. Supervise student workers as needed.
  5. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Annual Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain an organized costume shop.
  2. Create and maintain an ongoing inventory of materials/costumes.
  3. Assist with recruitment activities.
  4. Oversee all loans/exchanges between Shorter and other area theatre groups.
  5. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
