Position Summary:

Provide direction, coordination, and management of accounting operations to include accounts payable, accounting data, accounting records, financial reporting, and general accounting services.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate accounting operations to ensure prompt and accurate fulfillment of University financial obligations. Establish policies and procedures for accounting operations; interface with all levels of University management and faculty to ensure compliance with established accounting policies and procedures. Determine fiscal requirements of accounting operations and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
  • Coordinate the ongoing assessment of financial system needs and recommending solutions and implementing the selected solution. Coordinate audits of financial and accounting systems and procedures.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly reporting package which includes a consolidating P&L and detailed statements. Ad hoc reporting as needed. Preparation of various other fund reports, analysis and distribution of those reports. Overall responsibility for month-end, quarter, year-end close, and debt covenant reporting that involves the consolidated financial statements.
  • Provide monthly analysis of financial statement components including revenues, expenses, and balance sheet accounts. Coordinate internal and external audits of financial statements.
  • Prepare reports and analyses, including financial statements and tax reports, setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Oversee all Accounts Payable functions.
  • Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.
  • Plan and conduct conferences with subordinates to ensure compliance with established departmental practices and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
  • Serve on university committees as assigned.
  • Oversee recording of endowment investment activity and reporting.
  • Direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.  CPA preferred.
  • 10 – 12 years total experience. Higher education experience preferred.
  • Banner software knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in preparation of GAAP financial statements.  Strong preference for experience in preparation of not for profit GAAP financial statements.
  • Experience in preparation of consolidated statements.
  • Experience in accounting for commercial real estate properties.
  • Understanding of market to market accounting for investments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be flexible and able to successfully work with a variety of duties and people.
