The James E. Hurley Division invites applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Physics
to serve as a second advisor and instructor for the physics major. In addition, the successful
candidate will teach courses in the physics curriculum, serve on university committees, and
participate within the profession and Christian community.

Essential Functions
• Teach physics courses such as College Physics, University Physics, and other upper
division courses as fitting within the physics department
• Teach other courses within the science division
• Counsel and advise physics majors and minors
• Participate within the campus community, serving on committees as assigned
Other Duties
• Assist in recruiting students to the physics major
• Participate in community outreach
• Engage in scholarship appropriate for a liberal arts environment

Qualifications -Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Effectively teach classes in the field of physics
• Integrate the Christian faith into the classroom environment

• Work effectively with college age students in either one on one advisement, small
group settings, or large classroom environments
• Possess and demonstrate strong people skills
• Relate to colleagues in the OBU community as well as be a representative to the
professional community beyond OBU
• Ability to conduct 2 to 3 classes back-to-back
• Master’s degree in physics
• Experience teaching undergraduate physics courses
• PhD in Physics

• Must be an active member of an evangelical* church in one’s community of residence, willing
to teach in accordance with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000, and in agreement with the
university’s policy on human sexuality (provided by HR upon request).
*Evangelical is a broad term referring to a segment within Christianity which maintains the authority
of the Bible and the belief in salvation by faith in Jesus alone.
