Assistant Professor of Media and Communication

Louisiana College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to serve in the college’s Division of Media, Communication, and Theatre beginning January 2022. The successful candidate will have teaching experience in convergence journalism, production, editing, organizational communication, and/or sports media and should demonstrate the ability to engage students actively and to contribute to an academic learning community both in a classroom and online. 

All full-time faculty are expected to teach courses, hold office hours, and participate fully in departmental, collegiate, and college activities; to engage in scholarly/creative activity; contribute to departmental, college, and college work; advise students; participate in recruitment events and activities, and demonstrate a commitment to professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an effective working relationship with the administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community to ensure the success of the program. 

The candidate must be a visible CHRISTIAN leader and give witness as a person who lives a life that honors the Lord Jesus Christ and is consonant with the Statement of Christian Standards of Louisiana College and the Baptist Faith and Message.

Qualifications Preferred:  Ph.D. in mass communication or related field from a nationally accredited institution. Candidates with a master’s degree and significant professional experience will be considered. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be familiar with word processing software and have a basic understanding of computers and their application in an academic setting.
  • Ability to motivate students to excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach through a variety of mechanisms to effectively instruct students.  
  • Successful background check.

Louisiana College is a private, Baptist, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences with selected professional programs, located in Pineville, Louisiana. The College was founded in 1906 and is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Louisiana Baptist Convention. It has an enrollment of about 1,300 students and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
