Overview
For a tenure-track appointment beginning in August 2024, Oklahoma Baptist University seeks an
established or emerging Christian scholar of literature, rhetoric/composition, or creative writing with
a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates. In keeping with OBU’s mission, candidates should
demonstrate a record of excellent teaching; a desire to integrate faith and knowledge within their
discipline; a commitment to engaging a diverse world and cultivating inclusive learning communities;
and a life of active Christian faith. The successful candidate will teach core curriculum courses in
composition, a Western literature survey within an interdisciplinary team-taught course sequence,
and upper-level literature or writing courses. Applicants who specialize in British literature, American
literature (including multiethnic approaches to American literature), composition and rhetoric, or
creative writing are welcome. The expected teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester.
Essential Functions
• Teach core curriculum and upper-level undergraduate English courses
• Keep accurate class records and submit reports and grades via an online learning
management system
• Keep regular office hours for advising students
Other Duties
• Maintain an active program of professional development, including attendance at
professional conferences, presentations, and/or scholarly or creative publication
• Serve the university and division in relation to student recruitment, campus events, and
committees as assigned
• Serve as academic advisor to students as assigned

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Must be able to teach multiple English courses, including composition and literature
courses
• Possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and pedagogy
for diverse student populations
• Be able to conduct a college classroom to maximize the student learning experience
• Be able to adjust teaching methods to meeting student needs
• Be able to work effectively with college age students in individual advisement as well as
small and large class environments
• Be proficient in office technology, office software (including various Microsoft tools), and
classroom presentation software
Education and Experience
• Required: Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric/Composition, or Creative Writing, or ABD by time of
hire; or M.F.A. in Creative Writing
• Required: Experience teaching undergraduates in an accredited institution of higher
education
