Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Textiles and Product Development, Department of Human Sciences and Design, Baylor University. Anticipated date of appointment – August 2024.

Description:

The Baylor University Department of Human Sciences and Design invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate level in Textiles and Product Development. The position focus is on teaching and establishing research and scholarship in applied textile and apparel technologies in a cross-disciplinary environment. Successful candidates will exhibit a strong commitment to scholarship, research, and teaching and demonstrate an active Christian faith.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for the individual who holds this position include establishing and maintaining a program of research and/or creative scholarship in textile innovation, research and testing, applied textiles, or wearable technologies; seeking funds to support scholarship; teaching undergraduate courses in textiles and apparel; mentoring students; and engaging in professional, community, and university service.

Qualifications:

Candidates for the position must have earned a terminal degree in Textiles, Apparel Design or Product Development with a strong textiles foundation, or a related field, by the time of their appointment (ABD candidates with planned completion dates before the start of the position may be considered). Candidates must have a defined research agenda or creative scholarship focus evident through diverse indicators including obtaining funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, or exhibiting in juried competitions, and have demonstrated evidence of successful undergraduate teaching. The following are desirable qualifications for the position: peer-reviewed publications and grant funding experience.

Apparel Program Information:

The apparel program at Baylor University, with approximately 170 students, is nationally recognized and ranked among the top fashion design and merchandising programs in the nation according to http://www.fashion-school.org/. Program strengths include opportunities for experiential learning, faculty/student interaction, civic engagement and integration of the Christian perspective. With an emphasis on maintaining the latest design technology, the Parker Apparel Technology Center supports both apparel design and apparel merchandising majors. Other facilities for apparel students include two design studios, a body scanner lab, well-equipped textile testing laboratories, a wearable technology lab, and collabortive access across campus to physiological monitoring equipment.
