Assistant/Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands

Position Status: Full-time, tenure-track, 10-month contract, beginning August 1, 2023
Reports to: Chair of the Music Department and Dean of School of Fine and Performing Arts
Qualifications: Terminal degree in wind conducting or music education (i.e. DMA, PhD). Exceptionally qualified ABD candidates will be considered. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the collegiate level. Successful record as a recruiter capable of growing a relatively new university band program.
Classification: Full-Time Faculty – Exempt
Job Summary: Full-time, tenure-track position beginning in August 2023. Primary responsibilities include:
- Directing both marching and concert band and any related instrumental ensembles as needed (jazz band, chamber music, etc.)
- Recruiting to a band program.
- Teaching other music courses (i.e., orchestration, marching band pedagogy, etc.)
- Academic advising.
- Maintaining an active professional profile.
- Participating in university, community, and church service.
- Other responsibilities assigned by the department chair and/or dean.
Contingent on candidate qualifications, additional responsibilities may include: Teaching general music courses, applied music, or other areas depending on qualifications.
The ideal candidate will have an established record of success in growing a program, experience as a director, pedagogue, and performer, and a commitment to diversity in teaching, recruitment, creative activity, and service.
