The University of Mary Hardin Baylor’s College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks qualified faculty for a tenure-track position in the Instrumental program in the Department of Music beginning Fall 2022, with initial appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated artist-teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.
The Department of Music offers the following undergraduate degrees: Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, Bachelor of Music in Church Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music, and Bachelor of Arts in Music with an Emphasis in Music Business.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Teach undergraduate courses in the field of instrumental music, based on candidate’s qualifications. Potential assignments include: Secondary Music Education (Instrumental), Introduction to Music Education, Applied Music (brass or woodwind specialization), Chamber Music, Jazz Ensemble, supervision of instrumental student teachers, and assistant director of athletic bands. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain relationships with area music educators, band directors and school districts. The teaching load is typically 12 credit hours per semester. Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.
- Terminal degree in Music (PhD, DMA) with a specialty in instrumental music is required. ABD candidates may be considered. Tenure track status requires a terminal degree in hand. 2. A minimum of three years of experience teaching instrumental music at the middle school, high school or collegiate level.
- Preference may be given to qualified candidates who hold teacher certification. 4. Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential.
- Must be an active, and committed Christian.
