The University of Mary Hardin Baylor’s College of Humanities and Sciences seeks qualified faculty for its Biology Department beginning in late July of 2024, with initial appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience. A start date of January 2024 is an option for a candidate who is available and so desires. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society. The Biology program offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Biology with several pre-health professions emphases (pre-Medical/pre-Dental, pre-Veterinary Medicine, pre-Pharmacy, pre-Physician Assistant, pre-Health Professions, and pre-Clinical Lab Science), and Biology with Teacher Certification. The Department also houses the new Neuroscience and
Bioinformatics programs, provides instructional support to other degree programs, and contributes to the core curriculum.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities:
Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student advising and recruitment; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.
Specific Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate Biology courses, such as Introductory Biology, Research Methods, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Genetics, and upper-level electives. Graduate courses in biological science may be available in the future. Teaching load is typically 12 hours per semester.
Qualifications:
• A Doctorate in Biological Sciences (or related disciplines) is required; ABD will be considered (tenure-track status requires terminal degree in hand).
• Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential.
• Must be an active, and committed Christian.
